The fuel crisis in Bangladesh recently

 The 2026 Bangladesh Fuel Crisis:

1. Why is there a fuel shortage?

The main reason is that Bangladesh doesn't produce much fuel (oil or gas) locally. We have to buy it from other countries, and two big things are making that hard right now:

Global Conflict: Tensions in the Middle East have blocked the Strait of Hormuz. Think of this as a "bottleneck" through which most of our oil ships travel. If that gate is closed, the oil can't reach us.

The "Dollar" Problem: To buy oil on the world market, we need US Dollars. Because fuel prices have gone up globally, the government has to spend much more of its savings just to get the same amount of fuel.

2. How does this affect daily life?

When fuel (gasoline, diesel, and LNG) is scarce, it creates a "domino effect" across the country:

Impact Area What happens?

Electricity Many power plants run on gas. Without it, they shut down, causing load-shedding (power cuts), especially in rural areas.

Transportation Buses and cars face long lines at petrol pumps. When fuel prices go up, bus and rickshaw fares usually follow.

Food Prices Farmers need diesel for irrigation pumps, and trucks need it to move food to markets. Higher fuel costs mean more expensive groceries.

Business Shops and malls are closing early (around 6:00 PM) to save electricity.

3. What is the government doing?

The country is currently trying to find "Plan B" options to keep the lights on:

Buying from New Neighbors: Instead of just relying on the Middle East, Bangladesh is getting more diesel from Indiathrough a new pipeline and importing coal from Australia.

Rationing: To make sure fuel doesn't run out completely, the government is limiting how much petrol can be sold to individuals at once.

The Solar Goal: There is a big push to build more solar parks. The goal is to produce 10,000 MW of solar power, so we don't have to rely so much on imported oil and gas.

We have enough power plants, but not enough fuel to run them.  Until the shipping routes in the Middle East stabilize or we find more alternative suppliers, the government is focusing on saving energy and rationing what we have left.
